Following a directive from Chief Minister Hemant Soren, road construction officials in Jharkhand have commenced geo‑tagging of ongoing road projects to improve monitoring and accountability.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren issued an order for all road construction officers in Jharkhand to geo‑tag every road project currently under execution. The directive aims to embed GPS coordinates into project records, enabling real‑time location tracking and precise progress monitoring.
Under the new protocol, field engineers will use handheld devices or mobile apps to capture latitude and longitude data at key milestones such as survey, foundation laying, and completion. This information will be uploaded to a central dashboard managed by the state Public Works Department.
State officials say the move is intended to curb delays, reduce cost overruns, and increase transparency for taxpayers. By making location data publicly accessible, the government hopes to allow citizens and oversight bodies to verify that funds are being spent at the intended sites.
The geo‑tagging exercise is being rolled out across all districts, with officers reporting that the initial phase covering major highway segments has already begun. The administration plans to extend the system to smaller rural road projects over the coming months.
