A consumer court has directed a jeweller to return 32 grams of gold and compensate Rs 35,000 to a customer who did not receive the ordered bangles.

The consumer dispute tribunal in India has ruled against a local jeweller after a customer complained that the promised new bangles were never delivered. The court ordered the jeweller to return the 32 grams of gold that had been paid for the bangles and to pay a compensation amount of Rs 35,000 to the aggrieved buyer.

According to the filing, the customer had paid for the gold bangles well in advance, but the jeweller failed to complete the order within the agreed timeframe. The consumer sought redress under the Consumer Protection Act, citing breach of contract and loss of trust.

The tribunal’s decision underscores the growing scrutiny of retail jewellery transactions and reinforces the rights of consumers to receive goods as promised. The jeweller has been given a short period to comply with the order, failing which further legal action may be pursued.

Legal experts note that such rulings serve as a deterrent against non‑delivery and encourage transparent business practices in the jewellery sector.

The case adds to a series of recent consumer‑court interventions aimed at protecting buyers from delayed or undelivered goods across various retail segments.
