JDA issues 13,254 notices to lease‑money defaulters, seeks to recover ₹1,006 crore in Rajasthan

The Jaipur Development Authority has served over 13,000 notices to lease‑money defaulters, stating that no new layout plans will be approved until outstanding dues are cleared, with a total recovery target of ₹1,006 crore.
The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) announced a stringent drive against lease‑money defaulters across Rajasthan. Under the new directive, any party with pending lease payments will be barred from receiving approval for fresh layout plans until the arrears are fully settled.
In the first phase of the operation, JDA issued 13,254 formal notices to individuals and developers who owe money on lease agreements. The notices make clear that the authority will not entertain any new plot or layout applications from these defaulters until their outstanding balances are cleared.
The authority estimates that the total amount overdue amounts to roughly ₹1,006 crore. JDA officials said the recovery drive aims to clear this backlog within the current fiscal year, emphasizing that prompt payment will help maintain the pace of ongoing infrastructure projects.
A senior JDA spokesperson reiterated that the move is intended to ensure fiscal discipline among developers and protect the interests of genuine buyers. The authority has also set up a dedicated helpline to address queries related to the notices and repayment schedules.
Analysts view the crackdown as a necessary step to strengthen revenue streams for the state’s urban development initiatives, especially as Rajasthan seeks to accelerate housing and commercial projects in the coming years.
