Mohali police arrested a JCB driver caught conducting illegal mining in the Laldu area and have formally registered a case against him.
Police officials in Mohali reported that a JCB operator was apprehended while carrying out unauthorised mining activities in the Laldu region of the city. The incident was discovered during a routine patrol in the early hours of the day, when officers observed the heavy machinery operating without any legal permits.
The driver was taken into custody at the site, and the JCB vehicle was seized as evidence. Investigators have filed a formal FIR under the state's mining regulations, citing violations of environmental and land‑use laws. The accused faces potential penalties, including fines and imprisonment, pending further judicial review.
Authorities highlighted that illegal mining has been a recurring problem in parts of Punjab, causing ecological damage and loss of revenue for the state. The Mohali district administration has pledged to intensify monitoring and enforce stricter penalties to deter similar offences in the future.
