The Jammu & Kashmir government announced plans to introduce a media policy aimed at regulating digital news outlets.

The administration of Jammu & Kashmir disclosed its intention to formulate a new media policy that will bring online news platforms under a regulatory framework. The move seeks to ensure that digital news providers adhere to standards of accuracy, accountability and national security. Under the draft provisions, online news portals may be required to obtain licenses, display publisher details and comply with content guidelines issued by the state media authority. The policy also outlines penalties for non‑compliance, including fines and possible suspension of services. Officials indicated that the draft will be presented to the legislative assembly within weeks, with implementation expected later this year after a public consultation period.
