Pharmacists in Jammu and Kashmir have urged the state government to slash the annual renewal fee for pharmacy licences, citing financial strain.

A group of pharmacists from across Jammu and Kashmir has formally requested the state authorities to reduce the renewal fee imposed on pharmacy licences. The professionals argue that the current charge places a heavy financial burden on small and independent drugstores, especially in remote districts.

Representatives of the pharmacists' association met with officials of the Health Department to present their case, highlighting how the fee impacts the affordability of essential medicines for the local population. They also pointed out that a lower fee could encourage better compliance with licensing norms and improve overall healthcare delivery.

The association has pledged to continue its dialogue with the government and, if necessary, organise peaceful demonstrations to press for a revision of the fee structure. No official response has been recorded yet, and the matter remains under review.
