The state government of Jammu & Kashmir has issued an order authorising police, excise and revenue officials to operate under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The move aims to strengthen the region’s capacity to combat drug trafficking and related offences.
Under the directive, the designated officers can seize narcotics, conduct investigations and initiate legal proceedings as per the provisions of the NDPS law.
Officials said the expanded powers will enable coordinated action across law‑enforcement and revenue departments, addressing gaps that previously hampered enforcement.
