The J&K government reports that 56,664 ration card holders have been removed from the beneficiary list since January, while 225,000 new families have been enrolled.

The administration of Jammu and Kashmir announced a net increase in the state’s public distribution system (PDS) roster. Since the start of the year, 56,664 existing ration beneficiaries have been deleted from the database after verification checks, officials said.

In parallel, the government has enrolled 225,000 new households, expanding the reach of subsidised food grains and essential commodities to additional sections of the population. The additions are part of the ongoing effort to update the PDS list and ensure that benefits reach the truly needy.

Authorities highlighted that the deletions resulted from duplicate entries, ineligible applicants and migration-related updates, while the new enrolments were based on fresh applications and field verification. The move aims to improve the efficiency of the scheme and reduce leakages.

The updated figures were disclosed by the state’s Department of Food Supplies and Consumer Affairs in a press release, confirming that the overall beneficiary count has risen despite the large number of deletions.

The government has urged residents to verify their ration card status online and to report any discrepancies to local officials to maintain the integrity of the distribution system.
