The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has recorded a literacy rate of 98.43%, meeting the criteria for full literacy, officials said.
Jammu and Kashmir has reached a literacy level of 98.43 percent, crossing the threshold that defines a fully literate Union Territory, Union Territory officials announced. The figure was disclosed by Deputy Chief Minister Sakina Itoo during a press briefing, confirming that the region now meets the national benchmark for complete literacy.
The literacy surge reflects sustained efforts in school enrollment, adult education programmes and infrastructure development across the hills and valleys of the territory. Government data indicate that both male and female literacy rates have risen, contributing to the overall high percentage.
