With colder weather sweeping Jammu and Kashmir, the education department has revised school timings to safeguard students.

The Department of School Education in Jammu and Kashmir announced a change in the daily schedule for government and aided schools as the region experiences a significant fall in temperature. The decision, communicated to school heads and parents, aims to protect children from the harsh early‑morning chill and ensure a comfortable learning environment.

Under the new arrangement, both the start and finish times of classes have been shifted, although the precise hours were not disclosed in the circular. Officials indicated that the adjustment will allow students to avoid travelling in the coldest part of the day while still completing the mandated instructional hours.

Parents and teachers welcomed the move, noting that the colder mornings have previously caused discomfort and health concerns among pupils. The education department urged schools to implement the revised timetable without delay and to monitor student well‑being closely during the ongoing cold spell.

The change comes as Jammu and Kashmir prepares for an extended period of low temperatures, with authorities across sectors taking precautionary steps to mitigate the impact of the weather on daily activities.
