Jal Jeevan Mission in J&K: 54% Projects Pending, Rs 1,360 Cr Payments Due

Over half of the Jal Jeevan Mission projects in Jammu and Kashmir remain unfinished, with the Centre yet to release about Rs 1,360 crore in pending payments.
The Union Ministry’s Jal Jeevan Mission, aimed at providing safe drinking water through tap connections, reports that 54 per cent of its projects in Jammu and Kashmir are still incomplete. Only 46 per cent of the planned works have been finished across the region.
According to the latest status update, the central government has not yet disbursed approximately Rs 1,360 crore that were earmarked for the unfinished components. The pending amount is expected to be released once the outstanding works are completed and verified.
State officials have indicated that the delay in project completion is affecting the mission’s timeline to achieve universal tap water coverage in the Union Territory. They are urging contractors to accelerate construction to unlock the pending funds and meet the scheme’s targets.
