Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar warned that a lack of mutual understanding on cross‑border terrorism is straining the strategic partnership between India and the United States.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar highlighted that differing perceptions on cross‑border terrorism are creating friction in the India‑United States relationship. Speaking to ThePrint, he said the two democracies share common security concerns but often miss each other's viewpoints on the origins and support networks of militant groups operating across borders.
He pointed out that unresolved questions about the role of neighbouring states in harboring or tolerating such groups impede deeper cooperation on counter‑terrorism, intelligence sharing and defence initiatives.
Jaishankar urged both capitals to engage in frank dialogue, stressing that a clearer, shared understanding is essential for preserving the strategic partnership that underpins trade, technology and regional stability.
The minister’s remarks come as Washington and New Delhi continue to negotiate broader defence agreements, making alignment on security issues increasingly critical.
