Jaipur municipal authorities will set up a 5‑megawatt solar power plant on six sewage treatment plants and two gardens, projected to cut electricity costs by about ₹51 lakh each month.
The Jaipur municipal corporation has approved the installation of a 5‑megawatt solar power plant across six sewage treatment plants (STPs) and two city gardens. The solar arrays will be mounted on the rooftops and open spaces of these facilities, leveraging otherwise idle land for renewable energy generation.
According to the project estimate, the solar plant will reduce the city's electricity bill by roughly ₹51 lakh every month. Over an 11‑year period, the cumulative financial benefit is expected to reach about ₹31.94 crore, providing a significant cost saving for the municipal budget.
The initiative forms part of Jaipur's broader push toward clean energy and sustainability. Once operational, the solar power generated will be fed directly into the municipal grid, offsetting conventional power consumption and contributing to the state's renewable‑energy targets.
