Jaipur: Nilgai Control Ordinance Remains in Force, Forest Dept Vows Continued Monitoring

The Rajasthan Forest Department announced that the legal provisions for nilgai control will not be withdrawn, despite recent crop losses, and will step up monitoring and awareness efforts.
The forest authorities in Rajasthan’s capital, Jaipur, are confronting growing farmer complaints over nilgai (blue bull) damage to standing crops. Recent reports indicate that the large herbivores have entered agricultural fields, leading to noticeable losses for cultivators in the surrounding districts.
In response, the state Forest Department issued a statement confirming that the existing legal framework governing nilgai control will remain unchanged. Officials emphasized that rescinding the ordinance would leave farmers without a statutory tool to manage the wildlife‑crop conflict.
The department also outlined plans to intensify field monitoring, deploy additional patrols, and launch awareness campaigns aimed at educating farmers about preventive measures and reporting mechanisms. Coordination with local police and agricultural officers will be strengthened to ensure timely action when incidents occur.
