A probe has uncovered that Jaipur’s municipal garden department purchased flower garlands worth over ₹1.7 million from a single vendor for 35 events in eight months.
The Jaipur Municipal Corporation’s garden department is under scrutiny after an internal audit revealed that it spent more than ₹1.7 million on flower garlands for 35 public events over an eight‑month period. All the garlands were sourced from a single supplier, raising questions about the transparency of the procurement process.
According to the audit report, the same firm supplied the decorative garlands for events ranging from cultural festivals to civic ceremonies. The total expenditure, spread across 35 occasions, averages around ₹48,000 per event, a figure that appears unusually high for standard municipal decorations.
Municipal officials have not commented on the specifics of the contract, but the corporation’s spokesperson said that a formal inquiry has been launched to verify compliance with existing procurement guidelines. The spokesperson added that any irregularities, if confirmed, will be dealt with according to the law.
The incident adds to a series of recent allegations of financial irregularities in local bodies across Rajasthan, prompting calls for stricter oversight and greater transparency in public spending.
