The Rajinikanth starrer Jailer 2 has amassed nearly ₹800 crore worldwide after 16 days, positioning it among the highest‑grossing Tamil films.
Jailer 2, the action‑thriller starring Rajinikanth, crossed the ₹800 crore threshold after 16 days of its theatrical release on 20 September 2023. The film has collected approximately ₹780 crore worldwide, with domestic earnings accounting for about ₹620 crore and overseas revenue contributing the remaining ₹160 crore.
The movie’s performance places it among the top‑grossing Tamil releases of the decade, trailing only a handful of Rajinikanth blockbusters such as Enthiran and Kabali. In the domestic market, Jailer 2 has outperformed several contemporaneous releases, securing the number one spot at the box office for multiple weeks.
Industry analysts note that the film’s strong word‑of‑mouth and the star’s massive fan base have driven repeat viewings, especially in multiplexes across South India. The distributor, Red Giant Movies, has announced plans to extend the run in select markets to capitalize on the film’s momentum.
With the ₹800 crore milestone looming, Jailer 2 is expected to continue its upward trajectory in the coming weeks, potentially setting a new benchmark for Tamil cinema’s overseas earnings.
