Inmates at Jabalpur Central Jail have hand‑crafted 150 environmentally friendly Ganesh idols, which will be placed in the residences of judges and other officials.
Inmates at Jabalpur Central Jail have completed a project to create 150 Ganesh idols using eco‑friendly materials. The statues were hand‑crafted under the supervision of prison officials as part of a rehabilitation programme.
All 150 idols have been fully booked, meaning each has been assigned to a specific judge, magistrate or other government official. The plan is to place the statues in the homes of the officials during the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
The initiative, reported by Amar Ujala, aims to promote environmental awareness by using biodegradable substances such as clay and natural dyes, and to give prisoners a constructive activity that can aid their reintegration into society.
Prison authorities said the project also helps improve the inmates’ skills and morale, while the officials appreciate receiving a locally made, sustainable idol.
