ISRO's newly developed GSAT-7B satellite system will provide reliable communication for Indian Army troops operating in extreme weather border zones, strengthening their safety and operational efficiency.

ISRO has developed the GSAT-7B satellite system to ensure seamless communication for Indian Army soldiers stationed in border regions that experience some of the toughest weather conditions in the country. The satellite is designed to offer secure, real‑time connectivity, enabling troops to stay in constant contact with command centres even in remote and high‑altitude locations.

By delivering robust communication links, GSAT-7B is expected to improve command and control capabilities, facilitate rapid decision‑making, and enhance the overall safety of personnel deployed in challenging environments. The system will support voice, data and video transmission, addressing the critical need for reliable information flow on the front lines.

GSAT-7B builds on ISRO's earlier defence communication satellites, extending the network's reach and resilience. Defence officials have highlighted that the new satellite will complement existing assets, providing an additional layer of redundancy and ensuring uninterrupted service during adverse weather or terrain‑induced disruptions.

The satellite is slated for operational deployment in the coming months, covering the most vulnerable border stretches where harsh climatic conditions have historically hampered communication. Its activation will mark a significant step forward in modernising the Indian armed forces' communication infrastructure.

Authorities say the enhanced connectivity will bolster the army's readiness and response capabilities, reinforcing India's strategic posture along its sensitive frontiers.
