Bhopal's intern doctors intensified their protest on Tuesday, demanding an increase in their stipends. The demonstrators positioned themselves on the main thoroughfare, creating a blockage that stretched from the Polytechnic Chowk to the Hameedia area.
The prolonged obstruction resulted in a significant traffic jam, with vehicles queuing for several kilometres. Ambulances attempting to navigate the route were forced to stop, leaving some of them stranded amid the congestion.
Hospitals in the Hameedia locality reported that outpatient (OPD) and operation theatre (OT) services were disrupted due to the blockage, although emergency departments remained operational to attend to critical cases.
Authorities have been urged to address the doctors' grievances while also seeking ways to clear the jam and restore normal traffic flow.
