Intern doctors in Bhopal marched toward the Chief Minister’s residence demanding higher stipends; police responded with water cannons, breaking barricades and leaving one doctor injured.

Intern medical trainees at Hamidia Hospital in Bhopal began a march toward the state Chief Minister’s House on Tuesday, pressing for an increase in their monthly stipends. The group, numbering several dozen, moved along Fatehgarh Road after breaking through a police‑set barricade.

Police units deployed water‑cannon trucks to disperse the demonstrators. The forceful jets forced the doctors to retreat, and in the ensuing clash one intern sustained injuries that required medical attention.

Local authorities have not yet released a statement on the incident, but the protest underscores growing discontent among junior doctors over remuneration and working conditions in the state’s public hospitals.
