Medical interns in Madhya Pradesh staged a march to press for an increase in their monthly stipends, citing rising living costs.

Medical interns across several teaching hospitals in Madhya Pradesh organised a coordinated march to demand a rise in their monthly stipends. The protest, which saw dozens of young doctors walking together in uniform, was aimed at drawing attention to the financial strain they face while undergoing rigorous training.

The participants highlighted that the current stipend does not keep pace with inflation and the cost of basic necessities such as food, transport, and accommodation. They argued that an adjustment is essential to ensure that aspiring doctors can focus on their clinical responsibilities without undue economic pressure.

Hospital administrators and state health officials have been approached for a response, but as of now no official statement has been released. The interns have indicated that they will continue peaceful demonstrations until their demands are formally considered.

The march reflects a broader concern within the medical education community about remuneration and working conditions for trainees, an issue that has surfaced in several Indian states over the past year.
