The forest sanctuary in Chhattisgarh will reopen to visitors on 1 November, ending a four‑decade ban on tourism.
The Ministry of Forests and Environment announced that Indravati Tiger Reserve, located in the remote forests of Chhattisgarh, will reopen its gates to tourists on 1 November. The reserve has been closed to public visitation for roughly forty years, a restriction that was imposed to protect its fragile ecosystem.
Indravati, spread across the Bijapur district, is known for its dense sal and teak forests, as well as a healthy population of tigers, leopards and a variety of ungulates. The area also encompasses the scenic Indravati River, which adds to its appeal for nature‑based tourism.
Officials said that the reopening will be accompanied by upgraded visitor facilities, guided‑tour protocols and stricter monitoring to ensure minimal disturbance to wildlife. The move is expected to boost eco‑tourism in the region while generating livelihood opportunities for local communities.
