On Wednesday, the Indore Municipal Corporation carried out a large‑scale demolition in the Tora neighbourhood, targeting structures that were obstructing the width of a road slated under the city’s master plan.
Officials deployed bulldozers and pockling machines to bring down more than 40 residential and commercial units that had ignored a notice issued two months earlier demanding removal of the illegal extensions.
The demolition is part of a broader effort to regularise streets in line with the master plan, aiming to improve traffic flow and safety. The municipality said the cleared corridor will allow the road to be constructed to the planned dimensions.
Residents expressed mixed reactions, with some lamenting loss of property while others welcomed the prospect of a wider, smoother thoroughfare.
