The committee concluded that unsafe drinking water was the primary cause of 24 deaths, confirming the link between the outbreak and the polluted supply.
In its report, the committee recommended a compensation package of Rs 20 lakh for the families of those who died and Rs 5 lakh for individuals who suffered illness but survived. The amounts are intended to cover loss of livelihood, medical expenses and emotional trauma.
The findings also held government officials responsible for the lapse in water safety monitoring, while political leaders were not deemed culpable. The committee’s observations underscore administrative negligence in ensuring safe drinking water.
The compensation recommendation will be forwarded to the state government for approval and disbursement. Authorities have been asked to expedite the relief process and to take corrective action to prevent a recurrence of such a public‑health disaster.
