Indore’s municipal corporation has begun a door‑to‑door survey to assess household water needs amid drying borewells and stalled groundwater recharge.

Indore is confronting a severe water shortage as its municipal borewells are running dry and natural groundwater recharge has stalled. Residents across the city report that tap water supplies have become intermittent, prompting concerns about daily consumption and hygiene.

In response, the Indore Municipal Corporation has initiated a city‑wide house‑to‑house survey. Field teams are visiting each household to record the amount of water each family requires for drinking, cooking and sanitation. The data collection aims to create a precise demand map that will guide emergency water distribution.

The corporation has outlined a plan to deliver water directly to every home based on the survey results. Officials say the approach will help allocate limited water resources more equitably while longer‑term solutions such as new reservoirs and recharge projects are being explored. The survey is expected to be completed within the next two weeks, after which distribution logistics will be finalized.

Local authorities have warned that the crisis could worsen if rainfall remains below average and have urged citizens to conserve water while the survey is underway. The municipal body has also opened a helpline for residents to report supply issues and seek assistance.
