The Indore municipal administration announced a three‑phase plan, starting with widening left‑turn lanes at 17 major intersections to reduce bottlenecks and illegal parking.
Indore, Madhya Pradesh – The city’s municipal corporation has unveiled a three‑stage scheme aimed at tackling the worsening traffic congestion that has plagued the urban centre. The first stage focuses on expanding left‑turn lanes at seventeen of the city’s most congested junctions, while simultaneously clearing bottlenecks and removing illegal encroachments that impede smooth vehicle flow.
Officials said the selected intersections will see the existing narrow left‑turn bays widened to accommodate larger vehicle queues, a move expected to cut waiting times and improve overall traffic circulation. In addition to lane expansion, the plan calls for the removal of unauthorized parking and the re‑organisation of roadside parking spaces to prevent further obstruction.
The rollout is slated to begin within the next few weeks, with work carried out in phases to minimise disruption. Municipal authorities anticipate that the improvements will lead to a noticeable reduction in peak‑hour delays and enhance safety for motorists and pedestrians alike. Subsequent phases will address broader parking management and additional road‑widening projects across the city.
