Indore Crime Branch officers detained Akram Khan, a Maharashtra native, inside a court premises on Thursday. Khan has been on the run for five years after being linked to a 2021 seizure of 70 kilograms of MD (methyldiphenidate) drugs, a haul valued at approximately ₹70 crore.
Investigators say Khan was a key figure in the drug network that orchestrated the large‑scale operation, which remains one of the most significant drug busts in recent Indian history. The arrest follows a prolonged inter‑state pursuit involving both Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra law‑enforcement agencies.
Authorities also disclosed that Khan faces several other serious charges in Maharashtra, including offenses related to the illegal scrap business and additional narcotics violations. He will be produced before the court for further legal proceedings.
