In Indore, the mayor levied a ₹2,000 spot fine on individuals or establishments found wasting water, underscoring the city's commitment to efficient water use.

The Indore Municipal Corporation announced a ₹2,000 spot fine for water wastage on Thursday, aiming to curb unnecessary consumption amid growing water scarcity concerns. The fine applies to any person or business found violating the city’s water conservation regulations, as outlined in the latest municipal ordinance.

Officials said the measure is part of a broader initiative to promote responsible water use, which includes public awareness campaigns and stricter monitoring of water meters. The fine is expected to serve as a deterrent, encouraging residents and businesses to adopt more efficient practices.

The mayor, who delivered a brief address before the announcement, emphasized that every drop counts and that the city’s resources must be protected for future generations. The fine will be collected at municipal offices and the amount will be earmarked for water infrastructure projects.

While the fine targets water wastage, the city is also working on other projects such as repairing leakages and expanding rainwater harvesting systems to further reduce dependence on treated water supplies.
