Ahead of Diwali, Indore’s Women and Child Development Department intensified a city‑wide anti‑begging operation, rescuing eight beggars from major intersections and religious sites.
Indore’s municipal authorities have stepped up an anti‑begging campaign in the run‑up to Diwali, aiming to make the city free of street solicitation during the festive period. The Women and Child Development Department coordinated a series of checks across the city’s busiest junctions and places of worship. The operation targeted eight key intersections and religious locations identified as hotspots for beggars. During the sweep, officials rescued eight individuals who were engaged in begging, providing them with immediate assistance and directing them to a government‑run rehabilitation centre. The department said the drive will continue throughout the holiday season, with plans to expand monitoring and offer livelihood support to those rescued.
