The Indore bench of the High Court directed the National Highways Authority of India to repair potholes, damaged bridges and drainage on national highways within a three‑month period.

The Indore division of the Madhya Pradesh High Court heard a petition highlighting the deteriorating condition of national highways passing through the city. The petitioner cited numerous potholes, crumbling bridge decks and blocked drainage channels that pose safety risks to commuters.

In its ruling, the court ordered the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to complete full repairs of all identified potholes, restore damaged bridges and clear or reconstruct drainage systems within ninety days. The bench emphasized that the infrastructure must meet basic safety standards and that delays could endanger public life.

NHAI officials appearing before the court pledged compliance, assuring that a detailed action plan would be submitted immediately and that field teams would be mobilised to meet the three‑month deadline. The authority also indicated that additional funds would be allocated to expedite the work.

The decision comes amid growing public frustration over road conditions in Indore, a major transit hub in central India. Local commuters and transport operators have repeatedly urged authorities to address the issue, citing increased vehicle damage and traffic congestion.

If the stipulated timeline is met, the repairs are expected to improve traffic flow, reduce accident risks and enhance overall connectivity on the national highway network serving Madhya Pradesh.
