Collector Shivam Verma has imposed a complete ban on the manufacture, sale and transport of POP and chemically painted statues in Indore district until 18 October 2026 to curb pollution.

Indore district collector Shivam Verma announced a new environmental directive on Thursday, ordering an outright prohibition on the production, marketing and movement of statues made from POP (polypropylene) and painted with chemical dyes. The order, issued under the district’s pollution control mandate, will remain in force until 18 October 2026.

The ban covers all stages of the statue supply chain – from fabrication workshops to retail outlets and logistics providers. Violators will face penalties as prescribed by the Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board, and enforcement teams have been instructed to conduct spot checks across the city’s industrial zones.

Local artisans and vendors, many of whom rely on POP statues for festivals and public displays, were briefed on alternative eco‑friendly materials such as clay, wood and biodegradable composites. The administration has pledged to facilitate a transition by offering technical guidance and linking craftsmen with certified green‑material suppliers.

Authorities also issued disposal guidelines for existing POP statues, urging owners to surrender them at designated collection points to prevent illegal dumping. The move aims to reduce airborne pollutants and solid waste, aligning Indore’s environmental standards with the national Swachh Bharat objectives.
