An IndiGo flight was forced to divert after a power bank caught fire on board, prompting emergency procedures and a safe landing.
The incident occurred on 12 September when IndiGo flight 1234, bound from Delhi to Mumbai, experienced a sudden fire in the cabin after a passenger’s power bank ignited.
The cabin crew immediately alerted the cockpit, isolated the affected area, and activated the aircraft’s fire suppression system. Passengers were instructed to remain seated and keep their seat belts fastened.
Due to the severity of the situation, the pilot decided to divert the aircraft to the nearest suitable airport, Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai, where the flight landed safely without any injuries.
IndiGo released a statement confirming that all passengers were unharmed and that the airline would cooperate with authorities to investigate the cause of the fire and review its safety protocols regarding electronic devices.
