India has added 103 wetland sites to its Ramsar network, expanding the country’s protected wetland list under the international Ramsar Convention.
India’s Ramsar network now includes 103 wetland sites, up from 102 before the recent addition. The expansion was announced by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. The new sites span diverse ecosystems, from mangrove forests to freshwater wetlands, and aim to strengthen conservation efforts across the country. The Ramsar Convention, an international treaty for wetland conservation, encourages member states to identify and protect wetlands of international importance. By adding more sites, India reaffirms its commitment to biodiversity and sustainable water management.
