The government has issued revised housing regulations that prohibit construction of row houses and individual plots in industrial areas, allowing only limited multi‑storey apartments.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs announced a sweeping amendment to the country's housing policy, effective immediately. Under the new guidelines, developers can no longer build row houses or allocate individual land parcels within designated industrial zones. Instead, construction is restricted to multi‑storey apartment complexes, with a cap on the number of floors and total built‑up area as stipulated by the regulation.

The policy aims to curb haphazard residential expansion in industrial districts, preserve land for manufacturing activities, and promote vertical growth to accommodate rising urban populations. Authorities have outlined specific criteria for project approval, including compliance with fire safety standards, provision of adequate parking, and adherence to green building norms.

Stakeholders such as real‑estate associations and urban planners have been urged to submit proposals that align with the new framework. The government has also indicated that violations will attract penalties, reinforcing its commitment to orderly urban development.

Implementation will be monitored by state urban development bodies, which will coordinate with local municipal authorities to ensure that ongoing projects are either brought into compliance or halted if they do not meet the revised standards.
