Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the BRICS group faces constraints in mobilising private capital at scale, underscoring the need for deeper market reforms.
At a recent press briefing, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted that the BRICS bloc—comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—faces significant hurdles in attracting private capital on a large scale.
Sitharaman said that regulatory constraints, limited market depth, and a lack of investor confidence are key factors limiting private investment flows into BRICS economies.
She added that India sees the challenge as an opportunity to deepen domestic financial markets and encourage reforms that could make the group more attractive to global investors.
The minister also noted that the BRICS nations are exploring mechanisms such as sovereign wealth funds and public‑private partnerships to bridge the funding gap, but progress remains slow.
