Indian Railways has introduced a revamped Passenger Reservation System (PRS) that promises faster, more reliable ticket booking with real‑time seat availability and a user‑friendly interface.

Indian Railways has rolled out a new Passenger Reservation System (PRS) aimed at simplifying the ticket booking process for millions of commuters. The system, launched on 15 September 2024, replaces the older reservation platform with a modern, cloud‑based interface that can be accessed via the official website and mobile app.

Key features of the PRS include real‑time seat availability, instant booking confirmation, and a unified payment gateway that supports multiple digital payment modes. The new platform also integrates with existing reservation counters, allowing passengers to check seat status and book tickets at stations without long queues.

Railway officials say the upgrade is expected to reduce booking delays, lower the incidence of ticket cancellations due to seat unavailability, and increase revenue through higher booking efficiency. The system is also designed to handle peak‑season traffic more smoothly, with automated load balancing across servers.

The PRS rollout will be phased across all zones, with full nationwide coverage projected by the end of 2025. Passengers are encouraged to register on the new portal to take advantage of the streamlined booking experience.
