Indian Railways announced an increase in both passenger and freight services across Maharashtra and Telangana, aiming to ease congestion and support regional growth.

Indian Railways has rolled out a plan to augment its passenger and freight handling capabilities in the western and southern states of Maharashtra and Telangana. The move comes as part of a broader effort to de‑congest busy routes and meet rising demand for rail transport in these economically vibrant regions.

Under the initiative, additional train sets will be deployed on key corridors, and existing services will see increased frequency. Freight operators are also slated to receive extra slots, allowing more goods to move by rail, which is expected to lower logistics costs for manufacturers and traders.

Railway officials indicated that the capacity boost will involve upgrading track infrastructure, expanding yard facilities, and introducing newer rolling stock where required. The enhancements are projected to be phased in over the coming months, with early benefits expected for commuters and businesses alike.

The announcement aligns with the central government's focus on strengthening the rail network as a backbone for sustainable economic growth, particularly in high‑growth states such as Maharashtra and Telangana.
