Indian Railways has completed electrification of its entire broad gauge network in ten states, marking a significant milestone in the nation's rail infrastructure development.
Indian Railways announced that the broad gauge network in ten states has been fully electrified, a key step toward the national goal of 100% electrification by 2025. The states include Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Karnataka. The move is expected to reduce dependence on diesel locomotives and cut operating costs.
The electrification covers approximately 13,000 kilometres of broad gauge track, enhancing speed and capacity across the network. Officials said the project was completed ahead of schedule, thanks to increased investment and streamlined procurement processes.
