India to Set Up Siri Cattle Breeding Farm in Sikkim for Breed Conservation

The Ministry of Agriculture has unveiled a new initiative to set up a Siri cattle breeding farm in the northeastern state of Sikkim. The farm will focus on breeding and maintaining the Siri breed, a native cattle variety known for its adaptability to the region’s hilly terrain. By conserving this indigenous stock, the project aims to boost dairy productivity and safeguard genetic diversity. Officials say the facility will also provide training and support to local farmers, helping them improve herd health and milk yields. Construction is expected to begin in the coming months, with the farm slated to become operational by late 2025.
