Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that India aims to record a 7% economic growth rate in the fiscal year 2027‑28.
New Delhi, August 31 — Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman told reporters that the government is projecting a 7% expansion of the Indian economy in FY27 (2027‑28). The target reflects the administration’s confidence in the momentum generated by recent reforms, robust domestic consumption and a rebound in exports.
Sitharaman highlighted that the growth outlook builds on the 6.6% rise recorded in FY26, noting that policy support for infrastructure, renewable energy and digitalisation will underpin the next fiscal year’s performance. She added that fiscal prudence and a stable monetary environment remain central to sustaining the pace.
Analysts view the 7% goal as ambitious yet attainable, given the country’s demographic dividend and ongoing investment inflows. The projection will shape budgetary allocations and could influence investor sentiment ahead of the upcoming Union Budget.
