The Ministry of Defence has signed contracts worth ₹53,886 crore to procure new indigenous warships, boosting domestic shipbuilding capabilities.

The Ministry of Defence announced today that it has inked contracts worth ₹53,886 crore for the procurement of new indigenous warships. The deals aim to strengthen India’s naval fleet with domestically built vessels, aligning with the country’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.

The agreements cover the design, construction, and delivery of advanced warships, marking a significant step in reducing dependence on foreign suppliers. By investing in local shipyards, the Ministry intends to create jobs and foster technological expertise within the country.

Industry analysts say the contracts will accelerate the development of indigenous naval platforms and enhance India’s maritime security posture. The Ministry will oversee the project’s implementation, with delivery schedules to be finalized in the coming months.
