India protests UN map that places Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin under China

India has formally raised objections to the United Nations' latest world map, which depicts the disputed regions of Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin as part of China.
The United Nations recently released an updated world map that, according to Indian officials, shows the Himalayan state of Arunachal Pradesh and the high‑altitude plateau of Aksai Chin as territories belonging to China. India promptly flagged these representations as inaccurate, citing long‑standing border disputes with its northern neighbour.
Arunachal Pradesh, administered by India since 1950, is claimed by China as part of its Tibet Autonomous Region, while Aksai Chin is administered by China but claimed by India as part of Ladakh. Both areas have been flashpoints in Indo‑Chinese relations for decades, and any cartographic portrayal carries diplomatic weight.
In response, Indian diplomatic channels have sought clarification from the UN body and urged a revision of the map to reflect the positions held by the Indian government. The ministry emphasized that accurate cartography is essential for maintaining the integrity of international records and for preventing misunderstandings in bilateral engagements.
