The postal department will install QR codes at major religious spots in Gaya, offering pilgrims instant access to historical and ritual information ahead of the 2026 Pitrapaksha Mela.
Gaya, Bihar, is gearing up for the annual Pitrapaksha Mela scheduled for 2026. In a move to enhance pilgrim experience, the India Post department announced the rollout of new digital and cash services at key religious locations.
QR codes will be affixed at sites such as Gaya, Pinddan and Bodh Gaya. Scanning a code will instantly display concise information on the significance of each shrine, associated rituals and the broader cultural heritage of the region.
Alongside the informational feature, the postal outlets near these temples will offer cash‑less payment options for donations, puja bookings and other pilgrim‑related transactions, aiming to reduce queues and improve safety.
Officials expect the initiative to streamline visitor flow and provide a modern, user‑friendly interface for both domestic and foreign devotees attending the mela.
