India plants over 108 billion saplings under Mission LiFE, claims global lead in green cover
The Central Ministry of Environment has announced that India has planted over 108 billion saplings nationwide under the 'Plant for Mother' initiative, achieving a global lead in expanding green cover as part of the Mission LiFE campaign.
India has achieved a significant milestone in its environmental conservation efforts by planting over 108 billion saplings across the country. This massive undertaking was carried out under the 'Plant for Mother' (#Plant4Mother) sub-initiative, which is part of the Central Ministry of Environment’s broader Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) campaign.
The initiative is a key component of the nation's strategy for pollution control and the construction of a 'Green India'. By significantly expanding green cover, the government aims to mitigate environmental challenges and promote sustainable living practices among citizens.
Officials stated that this achievement places India at the forefront of global efforts to enhance vegetation and combat climate change. The widespread planting drive reflects a coordinated national effort to integrate environmental stewardship into the daily lifestyle of the population, aligning with the objectives of Mission LiFE.
