The central government has directed the armed forces to conduct continuous patrols along the India‑Nepal border to enhance security and curb illicit activities.
The Ministry of Defence has issued a directive for the Indian Army and Border Security Force to maintain 24/7 patrolling along the approximately 1,600‑km India‑Nepal border.
The move comes after a rise in reports of cross‑border smuggling and infiltration attempts, prompting officials to tighten surveillance.
Patrols will be coordinated with local police and intelligence agencies, and will employ a mix of ground vehicles, drones and foot patrols to monitor key transit points.
The directive also calls for increased training and equipment upgrades to ensure forces can respond swiftly to any incidents.
Officials say the continuous patrols aim to deter illegal crossings and safeguard the border communities.
