India moves to strengthen strategic sectors, says Economic Affairs Secretary Anuradha Thakur

New Delhi – Economic Affairs Secretary Anuradha Thakur told reporters that the government is rolling out a series of initiatives aimed at building and expanding strategic sectors of the Indian economy. The focus, she said, includes high‑technology manufacturing, defence production, renewable energy and critical minerals, which are deemed essential for long‑term self‑reliance.
She added that policy reforms, increased public investment and incentives for private players will be coordinated across ministries to accelerate growth in these areas. The measures are part of a broader push to reduce import dependence and enhance India's global competitiveness.
Analysts expect the drive to create new jobs, attract foreign capital and strengthen supply chains, although detailed implementation plans are yet to be released.
