India has issued 8,000 origin certificates under the recently signed India‑EFTA trade pact, marking a significant milestone in the implementation of the agreement.
The India‑EFTA trade agreement, signed in December 2023, has entered its first year of operation with the issuance of 8,000 origin certificates, a key requirement for exporters to benefit from preferential tariff rates.
Origin certificates confirm that goods are produced in India and qualify for the reduced duties outlined in the pact. The volume of certificates issued reflects growing confidence among Indian exporters in the new framework.
Trade analysts say the certificates will boost exports to EFTA members—Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein—by simplifying customs procedures and ensuring compliance with the agreement’s rules of origin.
Officials from the Ministry of Commerce noted that the certification process has been streamlined, and they expect a further rise in the number of certificates issued as more companies register with the system.
