India coach Gautam Gambhir urges better defence of totals after 2nd T20I vs West Indies

The second Twenty20 International between India and the West Indies concluded with the Indian camp reflecting on its ability to protect posted scores. While the match outcome was not detailed, the performance prompted head coach Gautam Gambhir to address a specific weakness.
Gambhir told the media that India needs to "find ways to defend totals" more consistently, emphasizing that defending a target is as crucial as setting one. He highlighted that the team’s recent innings have often left opponents with manageable chase scenarios.
The coach added that tactical adjustments, smarter bowling changes and sharper field placements will be central to improving the defence of totals in the remaining fixtures of the series. He urged the players to translate these ideas into practice ahead of the next match.
India’s coaching staff plans to review match footage and conduct targeted training sessions to address the identified gaps, aiming to tighten the team’s finish in future games.
