The Ministry of External Affairs released a statement today addressing widespread rumors about the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) bill. The government clarified that the proposed legislation does not impose new restrictions on non‑governmental organizations, but rather seeks to strengthen existing regulatory frameworks. Officials emphasized that the bill aims to improve transparency in the receipt and use of foreign funds.
In the statement, the ministry highlighted that the FCRA has been in force since 1976 and that the current draft seeks to update provisions to reflect contemporary challenges. It also assured that the bill will not affect the operational autonomy of NGOs that comply with the law.
