India-China Border Trade Restarts at Nathu La Pass

India and China have resumed cross‑border trade at the Nathu La pass, marking a significant step in bilateral economic engagement.

India and China have reopened cross‑border trade at the Nathu La pass, a key trade route in the Sikkim–Ladakh region.

The pass, which had been closed to commercial traffic since 2003, will now allow the exchange of goods such as tea, spices, and handicrafts.

Both sides said the move is part of a broader effort to strengthen economic ties and build confidence after years of diplomatic tension.

Officials from the Ministry of Commerce and the Indian Border Trade Office will oversee the operation, while Chinese counterparts will coordinate through their border trade authorities.
